Why I Love Wedding Photography

I Love Wedding Photography

I just booked several weddings in San Antonio this week and I always get excited when I book a wedding. Not for the money but because I love shooting weddings. As a professional photographer who shoots many different genres of photography including weddings, I have to say that wedding photography is at the top of my list.

Wedding Photography Vs. Portrait Photography

Almost all the major elements I must consider as a Portrait Photographer are already taken care of when I am going to shoot a wedding. Like, where are we going to shoot? What are they going to wear? Which makeup artist and stylist are going to do it? Just to name a few of the things that must be addressed when shooting any kind of lifestyle photography or portrait photography.

When I am shooting a wedding all these elements have been taken care of. Most wedding venues worth mentioning are great for photography. The outfits are beautiful. The Wedding organizer has already handled all the details and hair and makeup is done hours in advance. All of this is great from a photographer’s perspective.

It’s a Celebration of Love

Then you have all these happy people coming together to celebrate family, friendship and love with a beautiful ceremony and reception. What more could you ask for? Capturing all the emotion and telling the story of the people and the moment. Creating something amazing for this couple and their families that will be cherished for a lifetime, if not for generations to come. It gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

It is Challenging

Some photographers should not be wedding photographers. You really need to love it to do it. It can be challenging, for sure. But, I actually like the challenge a wedding presents. You only get one take. If I am being honest, after a wedding I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck or beaten with a bat. It is a massive amount of work. It’s very physical and non-stop the entire day. And, you have to be on-point the entire day. It is a beating but, I absolutely love it.

Information To Consider

If you have recently gotten engaged and are shopping for a professional photographer for wedding photography. I will leave you with some valuable information to consider.

Photography is as much a technical skill and science as it is an art. There are a lot of people these days buying digital cameras and are suddenly, magically calling themselves professional photographers. That is NOT who you want as a wedding photographer! I can promise you that you will regret it.

Do Your Homework

Speaking of regrets, if you get in wedding forums for brides on social media you will see so many instances where people wish they had hired a professional photographer or wished they had hired a different photographer. In other words, you must do your homework.

  1. Look at their website: Does it look professional? If the website doesn’t look professionally done it can be a warning sign. Not always but, worth considering.
  2. Look at their gallery: Do you like what you see in their gallery. If you do, then you will probably like what you see when you get your pictures back as well.
  3. Read Reviews: If someone has been in business for a while thy will have plenty of reviews to look through. People are much more likely to leave a review when they have a bad experience than they are when it is good. If they have multiple bad reviews… look out!
  4. Listen to your gut: Use your head first and do your homework but then go with your gut instinct. I always regret it when I don’t listen to my gut on things. Life experience has taught me to always go with it.

Congratulations on your engagement

If you are reading this and you have recently gotten engaged… Congratulations to you! That is awesome. I hope you have time to take your time and not get overwhelmed by the planning process. Recruit friends and family to help. Try to enjoy the process. Make sure you schedule extra time for everything. Being in a time-crunch adds unnecessary stress.

Pick me, Pick me!

If you are a bride and looking for a great wedding photographer, then I would be honored if you would consider me and my team for your wedding. There is nothing I take more seriously as a photographer than someone’s wedding. You only get one take to get it right with a wedding and failure is not an option. I absolutely love doing them and would love to be a part of your big day.
